AAFC

The All-America Football Conference (AAFC) was formed in 1944 by Chicago sportswriter Arch Ward as a competitor to the existing pro league. The played its first season in 1946 with eight franchises. Many AAFC teams outdrew clubs in the established league, but financial strains eventually became to much for the new circuit to overcome. Three of its teams joined the NFL for the 1950 season.
