In 1974 the Padres planned to leave Southern California and move to Washington, D.C. A uniform was created as well as baseball cards indicating the Padres as "Washington National League," since an official name had not yet been chosen. Nationals was said to be the leading name at the time while Stars, Senators, and even Pandas were considered. The deal fell through and, the Padres were sold shortly after to Ray Kroc who kept the team in San Diego.
