Jerry Jones began his foray into AFL ownership by acquiring the old Dallas Texans name and selling it to Houston for the new NFL franchise there. The new Dallas arena franchise was named the Desperados after a fan vote and Cowboys special teams coach Joe Avezzano was named head coach. Despite some impressive regular season records, the Desperados were unable to make it to a championship game.
