The Monarchs were the longest running team in the Negro Leagues and the most successful with only one losing season in 45 years. Ahead of their time, the Monarchs had a minor league affiliate and are credited with being the first baseball team to hold night games when they brought a portable lighting system to games beginning in 1930.
