Originally named the Chickasaws, the first version of the Memphis Chicks were very successful winning 8 pennants and a Dixie Series title in 1952 when they were managed by Luke Appling. Unfortunately, the stadium burned down after a game in 1960 and after finishing the season playing at various fields, the team could not afford to rebuild and folded after the season. In 1978 a new Chicks franchise was born and was best known for where Bo Jackson began his professional career.
