The World League of American Football (WLAF)began play in 1991 as a way to bring gridiron football to Europe and to North American fans in spring when the big pro leagues were in their off season. In 1992 it became simply the World League. It took 1994 and 1995 off, returning in 1996 as a European-only circuit. It ceased operations in 2007. In 2021, an unrelated league revived many of the World League club names.
