Originally started as the Atlanta Cubs, fans referred to the team as the Black Crackers in reference to the white team they shared a stadium with. The team eventually gave in and officially changed their name the following season. After playing most of their seasons at the minor league level, the Black Crackers finally got their shot at the majors when they were invited to join the Negro American League. The team made the most of their opportunity and made it to the championship series, which was cancelled due to a variety of controversies. The team never played again in Atlanta.
