The Royal Giants were created by the owner of the local Brooklyn Royal Cafe and mostly played against white semi pro teams in their early days. As the Negro Leagues became more organized, the team played in various leagues at the professional level. In the late 1920's the Royal Giants played multiple games against teams led by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
