The Washington Federals were charter members of the USFL in 1983. They immediately struggled with attendance due to the Redskins coming off their first win in the big game. Their star player, Craig James, was often injured and left for the Patriots midway through 1984. Despite some solid talent on the team, the Federals finished at the bottom of the standings in both seasons. In 1985 the team moved to Florida and became the Orlando Renegades.
