The Jets were one of the original franchises in the World Hockey Association (WHA) and proved to be one of the best, winning three championships.  Making that possible were players like Bobby Hull (Hall of Fame), Ab McDonald, Dan Johnson, Lars-Erik Sjoberg, and Ulf Nilsson. The team was one of the first in North America to heavily scout European players and beat the powerful Soviet National team in 1978. The Jets were the final champions in the WHA in 1979, which would prove to be their last championship despite playing in the established league until 1996.
