The Orlando Thunder played in the original World League of American Football (WLAF) for two seasons starting in 1991. The team was coached by CFL hall of fame coach Don Matthews while Lee Corso, former Orlando Renegades head coach (USFL), served as GM. The team reached the 1992 World Bowl, losing 21-17 in what would be its last game. Following the 1992 season, the league shut down for two seasons to restructure. When the league resumed play in 1995, no North American teams were included.
