The Stags were one of the original teams in the BAA and were consistently a top team, finishing with a winning record and making the playoffs in every season. In 1950, Harlem Globetrotters owner Abe Saperstein planned to buy the team. His plans included changing the name to the Bruins, playing the Globetrotters in double headers in addition to their regular schedule and becoming a regional team with "home games" being played in different cities around the country. Many of the team's players decided to leave the team and Saperstein tried to back out of the deal resulting in the team folding.
