The Cleveland Crunch was formed almost immediately after the very popular Cleveland Force decided not to return to the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) for the 1988-89 season. After the MISL folded In 1992, the Crunch joined the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) and went on to win three titles in that circuit.
