The ABCs were first organized by the American Brewing Company as an independent team. Eventually the team was purchased by C. I. Taylor who recruited his 3 brothers to play. The Taylor brothers were among the best players of their time and the ABCs quickly became a top team, eventually helping to found the Negro National League in 1920. The organization struggled following the death of C.I., and finally folded after the 1926 season. In 1933, Jim Taylor revived the team his brother had built and the ABCs played 3 more seasons.
