The Jacksonville Sharks were charter members of the World Football League (WFL). They hosted the league’s first nationally televised game on July 10, 1974 before nearly 60,000 fans in the Gator Bowl. Swimming in a sea of red ink, the team was taken over by the league. Unable to find a new owner, the league folded the Sharks. Monaco would up losing his medical lab business and wound up bankrupt.
