The Montreal Machine were one of the original teams in the World League of American Football (WLAF) and were the first American football team in Canada since the Toronto Rifles and Montreal Beavers of the Continental Football League in the late 1960s. With the Alouettes folding a few years earlier, the Machine had great fan support in Montreal. The team finished third in its division in both seasons, but the league shut down after the 1992 season to restructure. When WLAF returned in 1995 as the World League, it was based exclusively in Europe and the Machine did not return.
