The Honolulu-based Hawaiians were charter members of The World Football League (WFL) in 1974, though the continental media sometimes mistakenly referred to them as the Honolulu Hawaiians. The team featured QBs Jim Fassel, Sonny Sixkilller, and Norris Weese. They looked to improve in 1975 with the addition of running back Calvin Hill. However, the former Cowboy suffered a season-ending knee injury early in the season, and the team limped to a 4-7 record before league folded on October 22, 1975.
