Despite their scary name and logo, the Phantoms were actually named for a women's hosiery company (Phantom Industries) owned by one of the club's minority partners, and not a popular musical that had a long run in the city, as some believed. The team played well on the field, making the playoffs in both seasons. The Toronto market proved too difficult for the Arena Football League, however, and the team folded due to lack of fan support.
