The Cleveland Force were charter members of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) in 1978. They were one of the most successful teams in the league, both on the indoor pitch and at the gate. A 1986 home game against the Minnesota Strikers drew over 20,000 fans. The team regularly outdrew the city's pro basketball team. A disagreement between ownership and the league caused the Force to leave the MISL in 1988. They were replaced by the Cleveland Crunch.
