Calgary was the third home of the team that began in 1972 as the Philadelphia Blazers, charter members of the World Hockey Association (WHA). After one season in Pennsylvania, where they competed against the Flyers of the established league, the team moved to British Columbia, became the Vancouver Blazers, and competed with the Canucks, for two seasons. In 1975, they became the Calgary Cowboys.
